The History of EuroEyes
The EuroEyes Clinical Group is an organisation of government licensed eye clinics specialised in ocular refractive surgery for the correction of shortsightedness (Myopia), longsightedness (Hyperopia) and astigmatism. With centres all over Germany and in the Danish cities, Copenhagen and Aarhus, EuroEyes is Germany's largest independent group of Specialist Refractive Surgery Clinics. Since 1993, EuroEyes' Eye Laser surgeons have performed more than 200,000 LASIK treatments and more than 100,000 intraocular procedures, such as the implant of intraocular lenses (ICL) and refractive lens exchange/RLE (cataract surgery). Thus, EuroEyes has acquired most surgical experience in Germany within the fields of eye laser surgery and intraocular procedures.
Under the leadership of Dr. med. Jørn S. Jørgensen, the inaugural EuroEyes clinic was opened in 1993 in Hamburg (www.lasik-hamburg.de) being one of the first clinics in Germany to carry out the LASIK technique. Participating in this clinic was Dr. Albert Neumann from the Neumann Eye Institute in the United States (At this time the president of the Outpatient Surgery Society). In the years following this, EuroEyes in Hamburg held numerous national and international conferences on refractive surgery/eye laser surgery.
