A LIFE WITHOUT AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION
The Amsler grid self-test can provide initial information about the retinal disease AMD or retinopathy (diabetes of the eye). Timely action is important in case of retinal diseases in order to prevent further damage to the eye and the associated loss of vision. At around 70 years of age, it is therefore urgently recommended that you carry out regular eye checks and early examinations. The Amsler grid self-test (see below) can easily be carried out at home and helps you to determine the first signs of macular degeneration. However, it is in no way to substitute for an ophthalmological examination.
What is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)?
AMD is a retinal disease affecting the macula (yellow spot) in the back of the eye. Age-dependent macular degeneration (AMD) can occur at around 70 years of age and then lead to serious restrictions in the field of vision and even vision loss.
The functioning macula is responsible for clear vision during face recognition, reading, driving a car, computer work, etc. and ensures the recognition of details.
FIRST SIGNS OF AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION (AMD)
Distorted vision is a very serious first sign of possible macular degeneration. Age-related macular degeneration usually occurs from the age of 50. Other consequences can be gray, blurred or “blind” spots.
Prompt treatment is required, as any visual loss that has occurred is difficult to repair and the visual deterioration must be stopped.
DETECT AMD EARLY ON
To find out whether you have macular degeneration, you can do a simple test at home in front of the computer or smartphone using the Amsler grid.
The Amsler grid test
The Amsler grid test is a simple way of detecting macular diseases in the early stages. A person with normal, healthy eyesight will see all straight lines. A person with AMD will see lines wavy and distorted. If you see distortions, dark or blurry areas, boxes of different sizes or bent or distorted lines, please contact us.
We recommend that you use the Amsler grid self-test – a simple method for detecting early AMD. Show this test to your parents or grandparents today and enable them to live a life without vision loss.
