The History of the EuroEyes Clinical Group

From Laser Eye Center to an International Clinical Group

From Laser Eye Center to an International Clinical Group

With more than 25 years of experience the EuroEyes Clinical Group is an association of licensed eye clinics specialized in the correction of refractive disorders (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia). With Laser Eye Centers all across Germany, in Denmark (Copenhagen, Aalborg, Aarhus, Esbjerg, Herning), and in China (Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzen), EuroEyes is among the largest independent clinical groups for laser eye surgery in Germany.

Since 1993, the EuroEyes laser eye surgeons have carried out more than 500,000 LASIK surgeries, and more than 100.000 intraocular surgeries, such as implantations of intraocular lenses and refractive lens exchanges (treatment of presbyopia/cataract surgeries). Thus, they are among the most surgically experienced eye surgeons in Germany in the field of laser eye surgeries and intraocular surgeries.

More

All Laser Eye Centers in Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Leipzig and Stuttgart are members of the VSDAR (Association of Specialty Clinics for Laser Eye and Refractive Surgery). Quality assurance and experience exchange with the leading experts in Germany and Europe are the basis of the work of the VSDAR.

But the qualifications of non-physician staff Euro Eyes is also a big deal – they are regularly trained and tested in the fields of medicine and service. The EuroEyes Academy has existed in the EuroEyes Clinical Group since December 2007. In this EuroEyes Academy new staff learn about the basics of refractive surgery as well as the quality management system of the clinics. External service providers deliver specialized knowledge of the innovative technology that is used.

This expert knowledge will in any regard stand our patients in good stead, because our top priority is the patient and his/hers safety, customized treatment and satisfaction. Therefore, we place great value on an all inclusive service from the patient’s first visit at the clinic to the final check up. Thanks to our highly specialized clinics and advanced technology, we can offer our patients a unique solution, tailored exactly to his or her eyes. It is our goal not only to correct the refractive error, but to provide an overall improvement in the quality of vision.

With the Laser Eye Center in Hamburg, Dr. med. Jørn S. Jørgensen founded one of the first LASIK clinics in Germany in 1993. The American eye surgeon Dr. Albert Neuman from Neuman-Eye-Institute (Florida, USA) had a great role in this regard. In the following years the EuroEyes Laser Eye Center in Hamburg hosted several national and international conferences on the subject of refractive surgery / laser eye surgery.

Shortsighted and farsighted people with astigmatism can now benefit from the innovations in the eye surgery: the implantation of the new so-called toric trifocal lenses will make it possible for those affected to obtain natural vision – and not only the possibility to see well in the near and far distances, but also in the intermediate distances.

ReLEx smile treatment has since September 2013 been offered in Munich, providing even a higher level of safety during the laser eye surgery. This treatment method implies a necessity of only a tiny laser incision in the cornea to have the refractive error corrected for a long period of time.

On May 11, EuroEyes hosted the first China-German symposium on surgical treatment of refractive errors in Shanghai. In the course of this symposium, Dr. Jørn Slot Jørgensen, Medical Director of EuroEyes laser eye surgery clinic group, performed the first scalpel-free implantation of multifocal artificial lenses in China, which makes it possible for the treated persons to see well in the near, far and intermediate distances. Countrywide in China, EuroEyes is the only supplier that uses the so-called LenSx laser in the treatment of the patients with presbyopia and cataracts.

At the symposium, about 170 eye surgeons and specialists in the field of ophthalmology from all over China accepted the invitations of the clinic group with headquarters in Hamburg. The Company organized a several-day trip conference in cooperation with the Shanghai optometry doctors and Refractive Surgeons Community and with the Shanghai Ophthalmologist Society of Laser Medicine & Surgery. The aim of the symposium was to provide a platform for scientific exchanges between the German and Chinese doctors. Germany delegated, among others, the internationally renowned eye-specialists and experts such as Prof. Dr. Thomas Neuhann, founder and medical director of EuroEyes laser eye center Munich GmbH, Prof. Dr. Michael Knorz, director of FreeVis LASIK Zentrum at the University Hospital of Mannheim, and professor Dr. Ralf-Christian Lerche, deputy medical director of EuroEyes laser eye surgery clinic group. China was represented by the renowned eye-specialists and experts such as Prof. Chu Renyuan from EENT Hospital affiliated to the Fudan University, and Prof. Li Ying from Beijing Union Medical College Hospital, who delivered lectures at the symposium. The presentations were focused on the treatment of myopia and presbyopia. The thematic selection was oriented towards the needs of Chinese patients: About 80 percent of the Chinese citizens suffer from shortsightedness. “Due to the usually very high level of shortsightedness, people in China often suffer from presbyopia or cataracts at a younger age in comparison, for example, with people in Germany”, Dr. Jørgensen explains.
